Confirmation of Payee
The way you make and receive payments is changing. Confirmation of Payee is a new initiative designed to help protect you from scams and mistaken payments.
What is Confirmation of Payee?
Confirmation of Payee is an initiative of Australian Payments Plus (AP+), the organisation that provides trusted payment services like BPAY®, Osko®, eftpos®, PayID® and PayTo®.
It’s an industry-wide service designed to give you valuable information that may help protect you from scams and mistaken payments – so your money stays safe.
When you’re sending money to a business or person, Confirmation of Payee will check the account name, BSB and account number you've entered with the account details held by the recipient’s bank and let you know whether they match or not.
This gives you the chance to decide what to do next. If If the details don't match, we’ll suggest you verify the information with the intended recipient. Or if something doesn’t seem right, you can choose to cancel the payment.
How to receive payments
Confirmation of Payee will change how you do your personal and/or business banking through our digital banking services.
Receiving funds from a non-First Option Bank account
Personal & Business members
Anyone paying into your First Option Bank account will need:
- Your account name. This is typically your legal first and last names as shown on your driver's licence, birth certificate or passport. For business members, this will typically be the name of your business.
- If your name uses special characters (e.g. Olivia Newton-John), find out how to format it correctly here.
What you need to do
It’s important that you provide the correct First Option Bank account holder name to anyone paying you. If your payer uses the wrong name, they may receive a close match or no match result which could result in the person or business intending to pay you cancelling the payment.
What is my correct account holder name?
Personal
- Your account holder name will typically be your legal first and last names as shown on your driver's licence, birth certificate or passport (e.g. Jane Smith).
Business members
- You will need to use your business’s legal name as held by the Australian Business Register (ABR). This can be found on your certificate of incorporation and bank records. Coming soon, you will also have the option to use your business’s registered name as an AKA (Also Known As) name.
Guidelines for providing the correct account name to receive payments
The account name you need to provide to someone sending you payment will depend on the type of account you have.
Individual account
- For an individual account, the account name is the legal first and last name of the account holder as shown on their driver's licence, birth certificate or passport. The use of middle names, initials, nicknames, and shortened/abbreviated names will not result in a match.
Joint account
- For a joint account, the account name is the legal first and last name of at least one account holder as shown on their driver's licence, birth certificate or passport.
Sole Trader & Partnerships
- For a sole trader, the account name is the sole trader name registered with the bank. Business+ customers can also use their registered AKA (Also known as) name.
Company
- This is typically the legal name of your business as held by the Australian Business Register (ABR). Business+ customers can also use their registered AKA (Also Known As) name.
